The flat Convex Cylindrical Lens focuses light in only one direction. Its shape is similar to that of the flat Convex Lens. It is a part of the cylinder and can replace the spherical surface. The Cylindrical Lens can turn the point light into linear light and can be used as a linear laser generator for generating laser.
The lens is magnified at the same size, so it can stretch the image, so it can focus the light into a slit or condense it into a linear scanning detector. Due to strict tolerances on tilt and wedge, the imaging lens will produce a straight line or better image than the standard cylindrical lens.

Example with BK7 material：These N-BK7 plano convex cylindrical lens are available uncoated or with one of five antireflection coatings (-A, -AB, -B, -C, or -D), which reduces the amount of light reflected from each surface of the lens (see the Selection Guide table below for coating option). Since approximately 4% of the incident light is reflected at each surface of an uncoated substrate, the application of an AR coating improves transmission, which is important in low-light applications, and prevents the undesirable effects (e.g., ghost images) associated with multiple reflections. Having optics that are AR coated on both surfaces is particularly desirable for applications utilizing multiple optical elements. Please see the Graphs tab for additional coating information.
